Welcome to the Golden Land by AndyMumford Welcome to the Golden Land by AndyMumford
This is a self portrait at Mount Kyaiktiyo, site of Golden Rock, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Burmese Buddhism.
We climbed the peak in late afternoon for sunset, and stayed there over night for the sunrise. Like all the Buddhist sites we visited in Burma, you have to be barefoot, so wandering around across rock and marble first thing in the morning, at an altitude of just over 1000 meters gives you pretty cold feet.
The golden rock behind me isn't THE Golden Rock, which is a few hundred meters further along the ridge. This is a smaller shrine in the temple complex.

I came back yesterday ;)

I was one week in Laos, one week in Cambodia and 3 weeks in Myanmar (Yangon, Bago, Golden Rock, Hpa-An, Mawlamyaing, Mandalay, Monywa, Bagan, Inlay, Ngapali, in this order). I took more than 4000 pictures, it's going to take time to make the selection :D

Your pictures are great, I'm looking forward to see your next posts!!

Wow, sounds like a great trip!  We just had 2 weeks and did a shorter version of what you did.  Yangon, Golden Rock, Inle, Mandalay, Bagan and Ngapali.  There's still plenty I'd love to see there, like Sittwe and Mrauk U, so I might have to return at some point.
I'm looking forward to seeing your images..it really is an amazing place.

Indeed.. So many places, so little time! I hope I'll be able to return and discover more of that beautiful country!
