It's just nice to be out taking photos again after so long....
At the weekends, I have a tendency to be lazy...look out the window and think "Hmm, could be a good sunset tonight" but get bogged down by the little things that I need to do at home, and discouraged by the drive through a busy Lisbon, then out on the motorway to get anywhere to shoot.
When I go away on trips, it's different, but back at home in the city....the inspiration just isn't the same.
But yesterday I was determined to go out and do some shooting. Blue skies interspersed with rain showers made me think we'd have a good sunset, and I texted Hugo ~arqhugo to ask him if he wanted to meet up.
Despite having the flu, he dragged himself out and we met up on the west coast near Guincho, on the coast where I first started shooting waterscapes. He showed me this location, one I'd been interested in shooting for a while, and looking at the sky, we both thought it was going to be interesting. In a perfect world the tide would have been half a meter higher, but considering we were protected from the worst of the spray and wind, and the sunset turned into one of the nicest I've ever seen in Portugal, I guess I can't really complain.
My shot has a cooler cast because I was using the Lee Big Stopper x10ND filter. It's a lovely filter, but it does have a really blue cast. I corrected this using some advice I got from *KirlianCamera Basically, in Capture NX2, I reset the white balance to Daylight-Shade, and then used Pro Contrast in Nik Color Efex Pro - the best plug in I have ever seen. It's still a little blue, but I've decided to leave it like this to offer a contrast to the other, much warmer shots I'll upload from the same session.
Thanks to Hugo for coming along, it was great to finally get out shooting together, more than a year after we first made plans to do so, and also good to meet ~PauloALopes Looking forward to seeing what he produced from the same sunset.
