I've just not been active on DA recently, apologies for not keeping up with people's work, but various events in life, and having so many weddings to shoot at the moment has completely stopped me from taking landscape photos, and also kept me away from the internet. I also heard there was some kind of football tournament on recently...not sure what.
Anyways, this is a re-submission of a shot from last year with very different processing. Editing wedding images is very different to landscape images, and there's a license to be much more stylized with the processing. The above shot has been processed using a cross processing and selective blur technique to create a bleached retro look that I've been using a lot on portraits. I think it really suits this kind of urban summer image.
The Photo
Listen carefully in Portugal's scorching summer time, and you can hear the gnashing of Portuguese landscape photographer's teeth, sighs of frustration and loud complaints as we go for months on end without seeing any clouds in the sky. No clouds equals no interesting skies for landscape photography and the camera goes into summertime hibernation....
...What we do have though is guaranteed great light, and this year I've left my tripod and filters at home and just been out shooting the city, as well as having plenty of time taken up with shooting weddings. I've even taught myself how to use flash
Anyway, here's a shot from a great late-afternoon photographing around Parque das Nações (site of Expo 98). Really wanted to get the feeling of a cool respite from the heat beneath this waterfall, and a really fast shutter speed to try to freeze every single drop.
