Piano Grande by AndyMumford Piano Grande by AndyMumford
The Photo

My favourite location in Umbria, most of the photos I've submitted from the area were taken from down on that the plain you can see at the bottom of the shot here.
A record shot really, there was no focal point to build the composition around, but a view that really left an impression on me nonetheless.

For this shot I woke at 5am, drove the 40km from our hotel, up the side of the mountain to the village of Castelluccio which is about 2000m above sea level. I parked the car and then had to hike from the plain up the side of the mountain to get this view before the sunrise.
I was hoping for the entire plain to be filled with mist, but sadly the conditions never materialized. However, it was a wonderful morning watching clouds drift down the valley and swirl around the Sibillini peaks.

This is a series of 4 horizontal images stitched together.

Also from this location: Valnerina
From the plain: Godspeed, Sibillini, Infinito Particular, and In The Shadow of Mountains

There're lots more shots from the same area and Umbria on my website

Had to upload this so wide because of DA's rather stupid 400 pixel minimum limit, which really isn't appropriate for panos.

Thanks in advance for any comments or faves.

Some of the best processed clouds I've ever seen, so fluffy and white! Beautiful scape, well done.

Oye there Andy! Another excellent shot! The composition (despite lacking a rock in the foreground. :P) is excellent, and so are the colours and exposure. Truly a great shot.

And the amount of effort you put into physically getting the shots is impressive, too!

The effect of the sunlight, both on the clouds and on the grass, is what absolutely makes this image for me. Amazingly serene.

It's a pano, so the original is about 11500 pixels wide and 2800 wide so it's about 32 megapixels. There's a lot of detail there.

Oh well...I got 8 days off from my office, and on my 2nd day off I am in the bed with the flu :(
Plus all the damn days it was raining...
Well my only hope is that I still have 1 week left, which I will be spending the week before new year...
How about you? everything ok? how is the farm project going?

I did, and no, during April it wasn't particularly cold...although for the pre-dawn hikes I needed to be well wrapped up

I can only imagine what it was like to be here and to feel that cold air against you're face as you soaked it all in. Looking at the other pictures of this place really gives you an idea of how magical this place is. A killer view indeed. :)

I don't know that we can stitch photos using PS3 :o I usually use photo stitch to merge them together

Great shot , I really love the details and the open view from this picture

Thanks a lot.
In PS to stitch photos automatically you go to File > Automate > Photomerge.
Or you can do it by hand by creating a really large canvas, copying the images on, manually positioning them and then using the eraser brush to smooth the transitions.
