Nostalgia For Infinity by AndyMumford Nostalgia For Infinity by AndyMumford
Tip of the hat to Alastair Reynolds for the title. One for the nerds

Really wanted to submit something different.

For this one, ignored the voice in my head telling me that it was pointless to even try this because shots like this never work.
Had a go anyway. Wide open, fast shutter speed and fired off three shots, before forgetting about them as I spent the rest of my trip taking "proper photos"

Over the months its grown on me, so here it is for better or worse.

The thing I like most about this particular shot is that it's different from what we're used to see. Not that your other photos aren't good - they're great indeed, I became I fan since I found your gallery like 30 minutes ago - but this one is special. It's simple yet powerful and absolutelly brilliant, in my opinion.

Absolutely stunning Andy. Easily one of my favourite pictures of all time. I think you should try and take the "pictures that never work" more often.

I love how the mountains breaking out of the clouds kind of looks like a big snow drift, until you look at it some more and realize it's clouds, and I love how much the blacks stand out. Everything is so tremendously sharp too. :D

I must ask, is there any way I can get a larger copy of this shot, for my desktop background? You can watermark it, lower quality, do what you need to, I would just love this shot for my background.

Cheers Andy, keep up the great work!

Thanks so much for the comment, I'm glad you like it.
I'll have a look at sorting out a larger version. Note me your email, along with your screen resolution size. Can't promise anything though as this is a cropped image, and I'm not sure how good it will look larger

Nevertheless a great shot with a good diagonal composition.
I recently took some sunset shots out of the window of the plane too. But there were no such wonderful mountains, only clouds.
A great piece of work!

I find it fantastic that you include the model of airplane in the metadata. What, no row/seat number? ;-) Nice shot, and nice change of pace.

I don't see how you think this isn't a "proper photo." Maybe you should go against your concept of what a proper photo is more often because this shot is gorgeous! I always thought that thinking outside the box was good.

I was being ironic when I said that about "proper" photos...that's why I used the inverted commas.
If you look in my most recent journal (below the contest) you'll that the kind of pictures I submit here are not representative of all the kinds of pictures I take....I tend only to submit regulation land/waterscapes here, and the what my style actually is, the way I approach photography, is something I've been reappraising over the last year or so.
