Submitted to scraps for a journal entry

This is the view from the walls around the town of Marvao. It's a great view, but the light really wouldn't come..it was flat and overcast all day.
I kept hoping for some sun rays to break through the cloud, but they never did, so the image really doesn't work.

i still like it, even if the light was flat. if the sky wasn't burnt out that much, it would make a nice black and white image.
The sky hasn't burnt out at all, it's just white, but there's no detail clipping there. It tried it in b&w, but to be honest it's a little heavy.

Just over-poweringly dark

I guess u should have wait for the sunset to get some pretty colors behind those clouds it could have been a very nice shot

Sadly I didn't have time and had to leave about 4 hours before sunset...but it's somewhere I'll definitely return to in future. This is only a scrap, I'd never take a shot like this seriously, but I think it's nice to stick stuff like this in my journal so people can see the stuff I do that doesn't work, and that photography is often about waiting and timing, as much as technique.

Glad you like it though mate, it really is a wonderful place

Did you try to use a ND grad?

Glad you like it....and yes, there's 3 stop soft grad across the sky on this shot

By the way Andy, yesteday I was having a look at some Cokin P series ND grads.
As a first approach what do you think I should get? A ND8 grad (which is about 3stops) or something softer? I don't quite remember how hard they were though.... I remember 3 of them: ND2 grad, ND4 grad and the ND8 grad. Anyway, do you think I should get the hardest first or should I start from a soft one?

Thanks in advice
