I took this shot on the edge of Lake Mundaú, in a town called Pontal da Barra. It's just south of the city of Macieó in North Eastern Brazil. We caught a taxi down from the city because I wanted to see if we could get a decent shot of the sunset, but when we arrived at the town, every part of the lakeside bank was built up with baracas (kind of corrugated huts). We managed to find one that was actually a small bar, so we walked through the dark interior to this concrete terrace at the back. While the mother sat inside watching soap operas, the kid and his dad sat there quietly pulling fish out of the lake and scaling them, while the little girl ran around and played. We drank a couple of beers, watched the sunset, and all the while the kid just concentrated on his job. I took a series of photos, some just of the sunset, some of the people, but I've chosen this one to submit, because it really reminds me of the moment.
I wanted to get lots of light in the foreground but I didn't have my tripod with me, so I had to open the aperture up to shoot handheld.
Taken in Pontal da Barra, Macieó, Alagoas, Brazil
1/50 | f3.2 | 18mm | Cokin 3 stop ND graduated filter
Curves, luminosity and re-sizing in PS CS
Love the warm feeling. Great composition and great use of the grad!

Thanks mate...to be honest, this is one of my favourite shots of Brazil. It doesn't have the drama or the colour of some of my other shots, but it really captures how the moment felt...It's a pity there wasn't more going on in the sky, and the sunset was actually off to the left, behind an ugly bridge...but I like the reportage style of how this came out.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This is YOUR opportunity to mock, ridicule and generally take great delight and amusement whilst poking fun at the beloved Volunteers and Staff of deviantART.
