This is an old shot, taken on a lovely spring evening last year. I spent a pleasant hour wandering along Guincho beach on the west coast of Portugal shooting the late light and then the afterglow.
The Photo
This is a pretty straightforward reflection shot, the most important thing was finding an interesting composition, and I really liked the vein like marks in the sand where water has run down into the sea, so I built the image around them and the way way the light was bringing out there texture and shape in the sand. I took care to make sure that none of the rocks further into the picture overlapped, as their silhouette's would have blended into each other. For exposure, I took a reading from the reflected sand and used a 2 stop filter (which is usually the difference between a sky and it's reflection), and used a cable release to ensure the camera remained steady when I tripped the shutter.
