Cordoama by AndyMumford Cordoama by AndyMumford
The Photo

Taken on Praia da Cordoama on the south western coast of Portugal in November.
The shot is nothing special, I'd used the best light of the day shooting another composition, but I loved the black rocks here and wanted to see if I could build a composition around them.
The vast majority of coastal waterscapes feature water flowing around rocks in the foreground, but here I wanted to concentrate more on the rock forms and the receding cliffs.

As soon as it stops raining in Portugal (it's been solid for a month now in Portugal, I think I'm about to grow some gills) I'll be back down here trying to shoot the beach better.

Brilliant shot Andy, love the focus on those rocks and the whispy clouds in motion. A real cracker of a shot!

To the contrary, I think it is a special piece....
I love zig-zags within composition, everything here, including the clouds, follows them. Brilliant.

How can you take a 30 second shot and not get a massive white blob for a picture?

There's a 9 stop nuetral density filter on the camera (I listed it in the metadata) It's basically dark glass which cuts out 90% of the light.
I wrote an article on doing these kind of shots here [link]

Wow... awesome shot - something that really caught my eye was how in the background the waves crashing against rocks and the resulting spray has turned into a light mist that's on the water. It looks really cool :D

Great foreground lines, and colours Andy. The long exposure shows the movement in the sky very nicely, and I really enjoy the water crashing against the cliff edge in the distance.

Thanks Phil...that mist along the cliffs is quite characteristic of this coastline, and something I'd like to photograph more with a telephoto lens

An awesome image of the planet as it was, how it will become, wild, primitive... the planet earth

There was a war and there seems to have conquered the planet, and I hope that this happens...
